This blog is about finding something good for you to watch ten seconds from now.

Conventional online interfaces only do so much: they sell the very latest product and provide computerised recommendations based on algorithms. Film Authority is not like that. These are personal recommendations, watched and shared. The films featured are (almost all) online, and I’ll connect you with the best possible movie for you to see right now. I saw something of merit in each of these films, so there’s no one or two star reviews; three means I enjoyed it, four means I really enjoyed it and five means a stone cold classic. When I started the blog, I tried to link to as many different streaming services as possible, but the way in which films drop in and out of availability made this  hard to maintain. So the default is Amazon, who seem to have the largest and most reliable catalogue at the moment. If the film can’t be located there, I’ll put a link for where it can (iTunes, BFI, Vudu). These links can change so apologies if you happen upon a review which has no link or the link does not work. Let me know and I’ll try and fix them.

Amazon are good at switching you to the right version of Amazon for your area, UK, US or anywhere else. (

And there’s always a few free ones via You Tube if you’re keen to avoid spending cash right now.

I’ll throw in new big screen releases sometimes, not always recommendations, and few opinion pieces too. If you want to contribute, or ask about the blog, email

  1. I administrate a Facebook group that while it’s isn’t movie specific we do have a whole lot of discussions about movies and there two or three others besides myself who post their reviews there regularly. Here’s a link for you to check it out and if you like what you see then feel free to join and post links to your reviews there:

    • Thanks, much appreciate this positive comment. I’m really just trying to give all films a chance, not just the ones promoted on streaming services. I hope to broaden tastes and provide a useful service to people.
