Over at The List magazine, print and digital, I’ve reviewed yet another box-office success for the A24 brand, Talk To Me. Despite coming out in the aftermath of the Barbenheimer explosion, Danny and Michael Philippou’s gruelling horror thriller took over $10 million in its opening weekend in the US, a more than healthy result for a low-budget film. You can read my review here.
Also over at The List, I’ve been looking into some very modern literature with the publication of Shoji Morimoto’s Rental Person Who Does Nothing, theatre with a revival of Noel Coward’s classic romance Brief Encounter, and getting down with the kids on social media with the Ruined horror review podcast from Crooked Media.
I look forward to trying this one out for sure!
It’s a fun ride, but not too much depth.
Sounds like you’re keeping yourself in plenty of trouble 🙂
Never out of it.
Maybe if you played more volleyball and watched less movies you wouldn’t be in so much trouble…
People play chess online, why not volleyball. I’ll go first….ready….bang! First serve over the net and into the corner!
I dive, set and spike. I WIN!
Good game. We should do that again some day…
I haven’t served yet. I just described what I was going to do.
Code violation Mr Bookstodge; improper conduct. Game forfeited due to bad sportsmanship.
I tear down the net and use it to strangle the ref. I want a “serious” bad sportmanship violation!
Warning Mr Bookstodge. Serious conduct violation. Step away from the vehicle. Hands where I can see them.
I pull out my portable pocket howitzer and shell the entire town. Death, destruction and total chaos reign supreme!
See, Volleyball CAN be fun 😀
Is that really what volleyball is about?
Well, when I play it it is. How do you play it in Scotland?
Without heavy artillery.
Huh, what a novel idea!
I continued dreading your side of the court with dynamic serves while we discussed this. I win 15-0.
That’s ok. I got to use my howitzer. That’s all I really want from a volleyball game 🙂
and since I lost, I’m off to bed. Long week ahead, sigh….
Looking forward to tomorrows card, gets me through the start of the week…
Jokes on you. No card going up today…
Boo!
You forgot to hiss…
Hiss!
That’s better!
We want Wall!
Hold your horses spanky. You’ll get all the wall you can handle starting next week. Do you good to detox for a week anyway…
Following links is a PIA on this old iPad so I’ll be back when I get on the Big Mac.
Well, according to Alex it’s just me talking about myself, so why rush or even bother at all?
I didn’t rush but I did bother. Nope to the movie, yep to the book, nope to the podcast.
Phew. A correct answer at last. Thank you for your bother!
Oh I see, so it’s all about you. Huh.
Who else do you expect me to speak for, Bunty? What is Alex Good on Film about? A public conversation your having with yourself?
It’s about Me. Pronouns: He/Him. Capitalized.
Me Alex Good, You Jane Taymour?
Russell Claymore.
A while back you reviewed a movie, I think it was a comedy, which had some kind of time travel or Groundhog Day plot with young people meeting at a party at some resort or something and they were stuck in a loop (or something). Do you know the name of the movie I mean?
Coherence
Nah, I’ve seen Coherence. This was something lighter, like a rom-com with a loop angle. At least I think that was the hook. I think a pool party might have been involved.
The discussion boards at the old IMDb used to be great for things like these. I think there was a whole sub thread of “Do you know this movie?”
Remember the IMDb discussion boards? They were great.
The Get Together
Hm. I don’t think that was it either. But maybe. For some reason I think this one had people out in the desert and a resort with a pool. And there was some kind of time loop thing or something involved.
It was Palm Springs.
Is the correct answer!
The Forsaken?
