The Pyx 1973 ***

Long unseen, and looking like this print was found in the bottom of a skip, Canadian thriller The Pxy is a hard watch in the current 240 You Tube transfer, but its still worth a look. Karen Black plays a prostitute who kills herself in the opening scene. Flashbacks to her last days are interspersed with the investigation by Quebec detective Henderson (Christopher Plummer), which is unorthodox to say the least. Harvey Hart directs from a novel by John Buell, creating a Fincher-esque conspiracy drama that leads to a Satanic cult. If you can stay the slow pace, Black and Plummer do sterling work, and the unusual structure keep you guessing till the end.
