For aficionados of scenes of Cliff Robertson walking down corridors, this is a must see film, as the Oscar-winning actor demonstrates the full range of his corridor walking abilities for almost half the running time. Dominque is a mildewed but surprisingly compelling thriller, largely set in a house that appears hotel-sized on the inside. There Robertson and Dominique (Jean Simmonds) are lording it over their staff, but the arrival of Simon Ward as a chauffeur seems to up the ante; is someone trying to drive Dominique mad? While old-fashioned and naïve in its plotting even from 1978, there’s a oddly linear quality about the story, and the double twist ending keeps the guesses coming. Simon Ward also features on several corridor walks late on, and displays a markedly different approach to Robertson.
